Make You Feel My Love

This post is dedicated to two people I got to enjoy my Sunday with, Leanne (thanks for teaching me a new song!) and Yadira (you are an amazing friend, thanks for being so beautifully you!)

So I was hanging with Leanne today and we were jamming on the guitars and swapping songs we like, then she showed me that she just learned "Make You Feel My Love" by Bob Dylan. I have been listening to Adele's version a lot lately. I always knew I loved the song but once we printed out the chords and started to play it there was something so special and powerful in the words that we sang. Whether it was the intent of the songwriter or not, it was likely the intent of the Creator who loves to create and breathe life in and through all who are created in His image, and I could feel the love of Jesus powerfully through this song.

It feels just like a love song that He is singing over me, over us, over this generation.

After playing this song plenty of times, I knew I wanted to write a reflection on it. Then I realized as I looked at the words, it would be cool to write a response back to God in light of the love song I feel I have received through this melody. In quotes are the original lyrics and in bold is a response to those. The response also can go along with the same melody. I hope you are blessed and I pray that each of us are inspired to understand at an even greater level how amazing His love for us truly is.

One of my favorite versions of this song by Adele...
Make You Feel My Love (by Bob Dylan) and Response (By Jen Miskov)

"When the rain is blowing in your face
And the whole world is on your case
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love"

When the world is beating to the ground
And we feel like we've been knocked down
When we cry ‘cause the pain’s so real,
Help us to feel Your touch.

“When evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love”

In the middle of the darkest night
We look up so that we can see Your light
You have loved us even through the fight,
Help us receive Your love

“I know you haven't made your mind up yet
But I would never do you wrong
I've known it from the moment that we met
No doubt in my mind where you belong”

You've pursued us before the world began
Always doing what's best for us
Even though sometimes from Your love we ran
You still love even in our mess

“I'd go hungry, I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling down the avenue
No, there's nothing that I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love”

You've left everything for the sake of love
On my cross You died and shed Your blood
No, there’s nothing that You didn’t do
To make us feel Your love

“The storms are raging on the rollin' sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet”

Something is stirring all around us now
And we can feel change coming near
Spirit, we need You to consume somehow
We know there’s much more of You here

“I could make you happy, make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends of the earth for you
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love"

You have brought us true joy, You’re our dreams come true
Nothing that You didn't do
To capture our hearts, You’ve paid our dues
Yes, we receive Your love
Yes, we receive Your love

This is love- that a man should lay down his life for another.
